CUFF IT

The ear cuff trend does not seem to be going anywhere, and I’m totally on board. This glam-meets-punk accessory first made an appearance on runways such as Jason Wu and Rodarte last spring. We saw Nicole Richie and others sporting it (and other edgy accessories) at this year’s Met Gala, and it continues to pop up everywhere. Thakoon, Chloe, and Dries Van Noten featured the look in their Fall Collections. Miranda Kerr dressed up a black tee with her studded cuff, while Constance Joblanski and Sienna Miller embraced a punkrock look in black leather. How would you style it?

Let it be said that I am a huge jumpsuit fan.  It's like someone already planned your outfit for you, and you just have to add accessories!  I have been eyeing this DVF one for a while and finally scooped it up when it went on sale.  The print looks super retro, and I love how it's almost ombre fading from a dark blue to black.  It looks great paired with a bright shoe or a brown sandal, and I can't wait to layer it up with a fur vest this fall.

ROAD TRIP

 

 

 

Happy Friday, AC fans! Tomorrow we are leaving for Colorado… yep that is 16 hours in the car with my husband and two dogs (and their rather strong smelling dog food). Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and Colorado, but the driving part is not my favorite (especially through the desolate TX panhandle). So to make the trip tolerable pleasant, I need all my travel essentials....

 

• Entertainment…...the past two years we have started listening to audio books. Since I get car sick when reading, this is the perfect way to pass the time.  I also make sure my iPod is updated with all my favorites (Michael Kiwanuka and The Sheepdogs are currently on heavy rotation).

• Skin... Does your skin act up when you travel? Whether it’s by plane, train, or automobile, my skin is always worse upon arriving to my destination than when I left home. I have learned to clean my skin every few hours with Simple cleansing wipes and keep it hydrated with Mario Badescu facial spray throughout the day. Also drinking tons of water is a huge part of it.

• Uniform... I ALWAYS travel with a scarf (love this color block scarf and this circle scarf). It can double as a blanket, towel (in emergencies) and pillow. Or if my hair starts to get a little crazy, I just tie it around my head. I know my favorite models always look beyond chic when traveling, but I tend to stick to comfy jeans and t-shirt (favorites are here and here).

They’re rubber (aka they can withstand any music festival, trip to the lake, spilt beer at the baseball game throughout the summer) and are the perfect shade of blue. IN THE CLEARING

I thought I was a little over the whole Gatsby craze until Vogue posted these breathtaking pictures of Hamish Bowels’ birthday party last weekend.  These images perfectly capture 1920s glamour.  To celebrate the International Editor at Large’s twenty-first year at Vogue and his fiftieth birthday, his high fashion pals attended an extravagant dinner party in rural Long Island underneath a lovely striped tent.  The guest of honor showed up perfectly dressed in a tailored pink suit.  The dresses, the romantaic tablescape, the quaint clearing in the woods... How heavenly!

 

 

MONDAY MUSING: KATE BECKINSALE

 

 

I loved Kate Beckinsale’s print-on-print look at the TCM Classic Film Festival, and now it is on sale!  It looks so nice paired together, but I would love to sport the pieces by themselves.  The blazer would look great combined with white jeans, and the silk pants would be perfect with a tank top and sandals for a casual dinner.  The optic print is fun without being an overload, and the color blocking accent on the back of the pant and jacket gives it a sophisticated edge.  These pieces are a great look, day or night!

Let me start by saying that I have a major style crush on Dree Hemmingway.  She has the “I just rolled out of bed and might or might not have brushed my hair, but I look way better than you” style down to a tee… and she’s gorgeous… and she is Ernest Hemingway’s granddaughter…yep, bona fide style crush.  I especially loved her denim for days look she sported at this year’s Vueve Clicquot Polo Classic (she also killed it last year in her white lace dress and NY Yankees ball cap). Not only does she look great, but how fun does a star-studded polo match in NYC sound?  Champagne and sundresses- count me in! Paired with round sunnies and great mirrored wedges, this look screams summer time.  I cannot wait to rock my head to toe denim look…Maybe I will even score a ticket to next year’s Polo Classic (fingers crossed).
